Home again, home again, jiggety jig!

The month of April started out on the wrong foot with me in the hospital for a few days getting IV antibiotics for a horrendous colitis attack, honestly I never knew anything could be so painful as an infection in the intestines.

The first photo is the antibiotics hanging along with the IV fluids I was getting to recover dehydration. The second photo is the two plugs I had to pull out everytime I needed to use the restroom. My foot in the yellow non skid socks to keep me from falling on my butt.  I’m home now recovering, feel weak as a kitten and so tired but hopeful to be feeling my old self soon.

 
Right before I got sick I had just added a few new plants for my garden, herbs and green beans, lantana and milkweed for the butterflies, jasmine and native honeysuckle vines and 2 rose bushes and a hibiscus.

 
Well the day after I had the new plants arranged and waiting for transplant I had the colitis attack and was only able to water my plants and two days later I was in the hospital, meanwhile we were about to have a change in weather from upper 90’s to normal 70’s and finally a forecast of rain.  The rain did come however most of the large plants fell over in the wind so missed a good soaking from the rain.  Needless to say when I arrived home I was heart broken and didn’t take a photo of the near dead plants.
 
Happy to say after my son righted the plants and they were watered a few hours later most were looking good.  Two days ago I gave the herbs a good soaking and they look okay except the sage which may bounce back with a good trim.  The green beans have sprouted a few beans in a matter of days.

There was a stowaway on the Milkweed plant in the form of a caterpillar just looks like a dark shadow under the leaf it ate its way through the buds and leaves on the plant and decided to hide for a while.

This is the latest photo taken yesterday afternoon of the herbs a bit worse for wear but surviving. Greek oregano, chives, Italian oregano, basil, thyme.

Yes even a Goddess needs to wash her hands!

  Times are trying our patience and making us a little stir crazy and laughter is the best medicine or so it is said so I hope this put a little smile on your face today.

Welcome Spring

Despite life being temporarily turned upside down, events being cancelled, and store shelves being picked bare I am warmed by the knowledge that the earth turned and a new season has begun.

Slow Sunday Stitching

March has been a crazy month so far and it doesn't look to be calming down any time soon but I have managed to get in some hand embroidery this week on the drum and dance piece, I finished the 3rd drum, I moved the hoop and didn't want to remove it just to snap a photo of the finished drum.
I am currently working on the hair, I decided to crochet some floss for a braid like look.

I have also been playing around with the pastel felt I purchased from Benzie Design for an Easter projects I have in mind.  It's the Pixie Dust palette. I love the option to buy the coordinating DMC floss.

I needed more Stitch and Wash Away sheets for some hand embroidery projects coming up so with my 40 and 60% off coupons in hand I headed over to Joann's to pick up a package or two and then made the mistake of browsing, 20 Fat Quarters and some DMC variegated floss I made my way to the check out.

I could not resist the shiny rainbow and mermaid scales fabric I have ideas running through my head, the batiks and the pieces that look hand dyed caught my eye and I always grab a neutral or two. All of them are currently on sale for .99 cents.

On a more stressful level on Wednesday morning my son had a heart attack, by the afternoon he had a stent put in and was discharged Thursday evening, he spent a few days with his finance to recover. 

Oddly enough both of us had heart attacks in March, mine in 2011 and both of us a stent put in the same artery, however he is 39 and much too young to have this over his head but it is what it is and just like me there was no damage to the heart.  Grocery shopping with him today was a real trip he was looking for low sodium everything. He is a very picky eater so diet change is going to be a real challenge for him.

Its getting crazy out there with the virus hanging in the air, so many events have been cancelled most with out rescheduling, schools are closed for 2 weeks, and the grocery stores have been well picked over. 

I for one will be getting lots of slow stitching done, as well and crocheting, reading but the reality is is a sad way to have the extra time to do something we love so much.  Happy Stitching and remember this too shall pass.
